Per VA DMV, all Teenagers (Under 18) MUST complete 30hrs of Drivers Education (Classroom or Online) in order to receive their Driver’s License.

  • Driver education programs are available statewide to students, adults and out-of-school youths
  • Driver training schools follow course content approved by VA Department of Education and are licensed by VA DMV.
  • The curriculum includes components about alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, driving emergencies, pedestrian & bicycle safety, motorcycle awareness, organ donation awareness and auto insurance info, etc.

  • Engaging and Interactive – When students are sitting in their training, they can be engaged with activities, open dialogue, and interactions with the instructor and other students.

  • The program consists of 36 fifty-minute classroom periods, as required by the State of VA DMV
    • 36 periods x 50min each = 30hrs of total in-class/knowledge training
  • Pick a course option that best suits your schedule
    • Each course has a different block of start & end dates
  • To accelerate course completion, knock it out in consecutive days
    • If you are unable to do all classes on consecutive days, please discuss options with Instructor. We will do our best to accommodate
  • Course available in different formats:
    • 5 days a week (Monday - Friday)
    • 2 weekend days (Saturday & Sunday)
  • Can finish in 3 weeks during the school year or in 9 days during spring/summer/winter breaks
    • On “School Days” (during the school year), 2hr session is max allowed by VA DMV
    • On “Non School Days” (weekends, holidays, spring/summer/winter breaks), 4hr session is max allowed by VA DMV
  • Per the VA DMV: If the driver training school who provides classroom instruction is also providing behind-the-wheel instruction, the classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction may be done simultaneously!
  • For all Teens (Under 18) in Planning District 8, as part of the Driver Education curriculum, you must complete a mandatory one-time, 90 Minute Parent/Teen Class (per the VA DMV).

    Students under age 18 in Planning District 8 (counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park) must participate in this component, along with a parent or guardian, as part of the driver education curriculum.

Since opening its doors in 1994 AA Driving Academy has had one goal; to "teach you safe, responsible and accountable driving". To date, our driving school is responsible for training, licensing and improving the driving of 80,000 student drivers that have graduated from our academy.

  • Some of our instructors are active and retired police officers, with numerous years of extensive training and experience in traffic law enforcement, emergency driving methods, collision investigation and traffic court proceedings.
  • All of our instructors have many years of driving instruction experience, given professional training and are educated college graduates. They have also received specialized collegiate level training in Drivers Education.
  • In addition, all are licensed as Driver Training Instructors by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), certified by American Automobile Association (AAA) and National Safety Council (NSC).
  • All of our instructors get their fingerprints done every year and are subject to annual national Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) background checks and DMV driving record audits.
